Anyone with an account can submit entries to the Directory. To open an account, simply press "Log In" and follow the instructions to generate an account. Once your account has been activated by an editor and you receive a verification email, you are free to write entries, comment on existing entries, add tags, and manage your bookshelf.
We do ask, however, that contributors work with the following definition in mind: "As it pertains to the Electronic Literature Directory, Electronic Literature refers to works with important literary aspects that take advantage of the capabilities and contexts provided by the stand-alone or networked computer." Also, we do not accept entries written by the authors of the works that they describe. We encourage all contributors review the site, familiarize themselves with the field, take the time to read the handbook, and write well-developed, descriptive entries.
Every two weeks, an announcement is sent to the Editorial Working Group, inviting our editors two read and review recently added content. In addition, published entries will be available for constructive commentary by the general readership of the ELD (if you have an account, you should participate in this process, too). And contributors are encouraged to edit and revise their work. Well-written, reviewed, and revised entries may eventually be marked "Reviewed by the ELO," signifying that they have been approved by a group of editors and “locked,” making the draft a part our permanent archive and thus available for citation (Approved entries can be edited in case of error). However, the comment field will always remain open for elaboration, annotation, and further discussion of the entry.
Occasionally, if the works described do not meet the criteria defined above, the editors will decide to delete an entry. Similarly, if an entry is incomplete or remains unedited, we may remove it to make room for a more carefully written entry.
